Walkabout 11 – backinoz busy busy and now wet through

Well it’s been a packed three weeks – we have driven  from Sydney with 3 extra suitcases 4 full of stock, I have marked 60 assignments, Alan has processed and priced all the stock we brought from SA.  We have attended and sold a fair bit at 4 markets and 1 fair.  We have also done a house clearance and a partial shed clearance and sold heaps during the house clearance… Is that enough to make you gasp?  Well we did a few times.

Now we are huddled in our caravan beside the beach at Evans Head.. the only dog-friendly beach in the town and we have to ‘camp’ here because the caravan park and everything else here has ‘no dogs’ policies.  It is raining heavily – Angela and Kevin near Coffs Harbour (not far from here) have again been victims of big storms and winds and others of flooding.

We are huddled because we have bought some new folding shelves and 2 boxes of stock that we can’t fit into the van… so we are sharing space in the caravan!  Poor Bella is perfecting her reversing technique!  Anyway if the rain lets up a bit we will do the market here tomorrow and the next one at Yamba and hope to sell a heap of stuff so that we can fit it all in again.  Both places are in Northern NSW Northern Rivers Region…

We are actually and truly about to head North – you might be wondering why we have hung around here – well – we left Al’s wave ski at Angie’s place when we headed out the last time because we had so many garden tools that had to occupy the space!  Anyway they are sold now and we have to have the wave ski and also have to be in Brisbane for the Saint Andrews Hockey Club 90th Anniversary Dinner on 22 June – then it will really be only North that we will travel to get out of this chilly neck of the woods and truly start our world tour of Australia.

We are relying on the Tax Office to give us enough back from our tax to enable us to continue our travels.  We have signed a lease of a further 12 months on the house in Safety Beach (our haven of refuge for when we settle)…as an act of faith that we will be able to continue traveling and have also decided if at all possible to divest ourselves of the 2 houses in Ipswich which will free us of that financial commitment if we can do it.

Lismore Car Boot Sales has continued to live up to expectations

Boonah – an untried market gave a very good first time experience

Fernvale – more ordinary than usual

Alstonville Rotary Antiques Market – OK but pricey standing – so Al’s trip to Lismore with lots of gear from the partial shed clearance saved the weekend.

The picture below is a view of part of of our stand – we went for a single this time and packed it!

The next picture is of the partial shed clearance with our friend Dave who is the master of clearances and invites us in to take off him what he doesn’t want! At a price of course that is of mutual benefit!Image

About retrocentricaussie

We are a pair of ageing 'gypsies' who find junk and sell antiques, especially objects from the art nouveau/art deco years and old and well-loved tools. We also occasionally buy antiques as well!! We haunt clearance sales, garage sales, charity shops and sometimes dumps. Lately we have even been to a 'proper' auction. The thrill is in the chase for good stuff at prices we can afford and still sell the items on at a profit sufficient to support us. We recycle what other people don't want anymore, we find new homes for nice things. We sell at markets and antique fairs, swap meets and wherever else we can find. Our clientele are mostly ordinary people who want something they can afford that will enhance their quality of life. We are especially pleased when generation Y buy from us. It suggests that appreciation of quality and good design is still part of our modern aesthetic.

In Jeddah the temperature is crawling up . . . . 39 C today. I will be back in Adelaide for a knee operation on June 19th. After 6 weeks recovery I will fly to Singapore for a 3 week break before returning to The Bristish International School of Jeddah for my 10th year. Good luck with your stock. Regards, Maurice

  3. Good to hear from you. Glad all seems to be going well.
We have been delighted to discover that just about every motel or hotel in Western Canada is ‘pet friendly.’ Makes travel with Mr Yoshington Dog much easier.
Will continue to keep an eye out for your blog entries.
