Walkabout 7 – you might as well know…

There are downsides to all this ‘interesting life’!

Sitting beside the road between Coopernook and the Coopernook Forest Park… We are just coping with our third dead tyre, the first two blew out spectacularly and this one just went flat. We have spent the day in the car, I was supposed to be working all day today on my phd stuff. Then it was going to be the afternoon… the spare is flat, so we hope the nrma roadside assistance will reach us before 7.30 tonight. They had to rescue us yesterday as well. The other two blowouts were on the caravan – we have bought two new tyres for the caravan and will now have to buy one for the car. All this expense after a shit market and a big auction buy. Cash is hemorrhaging. And I am desperate to do my work which has to be with Shirley and Henk by Friday and I can’t know how long I will need until I start!

We also lost the big gazebo in a storm while we were packing up on Sunday afternoon! It is broken beyond repair so we will have to struggle on with only the two small ones.

We are also looking forward to our visit to SA – just pleased we have bought the tickets – otherwise would probably have cancelled with everything that has been happening.

Later …So here we are still on the road and the Nrma man is pumping the tyre. Bella is relaxed beside me and I am looking forward to a drink very soon. Fortunately for him Alan bought some beers just now so he’s happy!!

Now Wednesday – .. this is a gorgeous spot – quiet as can be surrounded by trees and of course other caravanners and campers… is a free spot so minimal facilities, just a long drop loo. don’t know how the Aussies get them to be so relatively pleasant. fortunately we have our own water and power so we are well prepared. Had lovely showers last night in our own little dunny tent.

Bella has just destroyed the silence with a paroxysm of barking – wants to play with a little fox terrier-type dog… we can’t let her – she always upsets them and we are afraid she will hurt a small done some time… the small ones get a bit aggressive with her when she tries to ‘herd’ them and then a nip turns into a growl … Anyway I am going to tackle the PhD work right now… on with the day.

About retrocentricaussie

We are a pair of ageing 'gypsies' who find junk and sell antiques, especially objects from the art nouveau/art deco years and old and well-loved tools. We also occasionally buy antiques as well!! We haunt clearance sales, garage sales, charity shops and sometimes dumps. Lately we have even been to a 'proper' auction. The thrill is in the chase for good stuff at prices we can afford and still sell the items on at a profit sufficient to support us. We recycle what other people don't want anymore, we find new homes for nice things. We sell at markets and antique fairs, swap meets and wherever else we can find. Our clientele are mostly ordinary people who want something they can afford that will enhance their quality of life. We are especially pleased when generation Y buy from us. It suggests that appreciation of quality and good design is still part of our modern aesthetic.
